The best learning method is to use as many of our senses as possible. If we can hear, see, and put into action the principle being taught, we are much more capable of retaining the lesson. As parents or teachers educate using more than one method, we are assured of greater success.

A review of significant events often will help when we are facing new challenges and obstacles. Each time we have moved to a new state, we have reflected how God has gone before us in previous moves. Even though we did not know what lay ahead, we faced it with the assurance that the Lord was directing and would guide our steps.

As we begin a new book, the opening chapter often introduces us to the theme and subject to be discussed. It reveals main characters or a geographical setting from which the book was written. Exciting events or historical facts are presented so the reader can understand the author's viewpoint. Such "hooks" are used to encourage a reader to continue to look at the material.

God provides for the people He instructs to be stewards of His possessions. I had a professor at Moody Bible Institute that told his students the last thing he would discuss with a church while being interviewed for employment was the financial package. He felt that if God was calling him to a place of ministry, God also knew his family's necessities.

"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." George Santayana is known for saying many catchy phrases to express his skepticism and view of life and society. History does have similarities and cycles that appear to repeat themselves but always with a slight twist!

Wars must be fought so that peace might reign. Ulysses S. Grant stated, "I have never advocated war except as a means of peace." This is spoken by one that had experienced all the trauma and agony of leading good men to death and killing other good men to regain peace in a land fractured by hate and misunderstanding.

Sacrifices come in many forms and at various costs. It may be as simple as a child giving up a toy for another child to have an opportunity to play. As we grow older, the value of our sacrifices may increase but not necessarily the level of importance which they hold in our lives.

Every decade the United States takes a census of all the people in America. The first Federal Population Census was taken in 1790 and has been taken every ten years since. The census is used for many purposes other than to count how many people are living in the country.

Temptations come in many forms. It can be flattery, seduction, promotion, or finances to name just a few. Often it comes in something that looks harmless and perhaps as simple as not telling the entire truth when asked a question or taking a few minutes more for lunch than is allotted.

How quickly we can forget the blessings that come into our lives! I am amused when I watch our grandchildren open presents and become so excited over the new present, just to toss it aside to open another. What caused such joy a moment ago is forgotten in the excitement of a new, unopened present.
